PLAY THERAPY

Play therapy is based on the understanding that play is a natural mode of expression and a vital component of a child's growth and development. Through play, children can symbolically reenact their experiences, explore different roles, experiment with problem-solving strategies, and process difficult or traumatic events. It provides a safe space for children to develop coping skills, enhance emotional regulation, and build resilience.

Some days managing ADHD can seem like a never-ending, uphill battle. In addition to the challenge of regulating the brain and body, many ADHD-ers become discouraged by misinformed providers, social stigmas, and well-intended but very unhelpful comments made by loved-ones. The first step is to increase your understanding of ADHD. Once you are prepared with the necessary information, you can begin shaping your approach to fit your specific needs and goals. how it all works:

ONE

The first step begins with scheduling a free 20-minute consultation call. This call will allow you to chat about what's on your mind, ask specific questions, and help you determine if we are a good match.

If we decide to move forward, we will schedule an intake session (this session can be in-person or online). You will receive intake paperwork tto complete online before your first session.

TWO

first session

The first session allows us to meet and get to know each other better. We'll talk about what's been going on, your goals, and anything you'd like to explore in our sessions. This is also a chance for you to see if we're a good fit. No pressure, just a cozy space to start this journey together and make sure we're on the same page. So, let's settle in and have a meaningful conversation that sets the stage for growth and progress.

THREE

establish goals

Ever wondered how therapy can truly make a difference? That's where therapeutic goal setting comes in. It's like having a map for your counseling journey, keeping you on track and motivated. We will have a meaningful discussion about specific, achievable goals that fit your pace and determine the optimal treatment methods for your specific situation. You'll be amazed at how reflecting on your progress and celebrating small wins can lead to real, positive change.

FOUR

work toward goals

This is where the magic (and the hard work) happens! Think of it as a friendly conversation but with a purpose. Here's where you dive into your thoughts, feelings, and life stories. Your therapist isn't just nodding along; they're guiding you through exercises, sharing insights, and helping you untangle life's puzzles. It's a collaborative journey where you explore strategies, learn new skills, and work towards those lightbulb 'aha!' moments. So, grab your metaphorical hiking boots, because together we're trekking toward a happier, healthier you!

  • How do I know if therapy is the right choice for me?
Wondering when to seek therapy? If you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or struggling to manage life's challenges, it's a perfect time. Whether it's a major life transition, persistent negative thoughts, or relationship difficulties, therapy offers a safe space to find solutions and regain balance. Remember, seeking therapy is a sign of strength and self-care. Just as we prioritize physical health, tending to our mental well-being is equally important. It's okay to seek support – many people do, and it's a positive step toward a happier, healthier you.
  • How long does therapy take?
Therapy is an investment in yourself and your relationships, requiring both time and energy. You and I will work together to develop goals and determine the timeframe and frequency that best suits your needs. During the initial phases of therapeutic work, clients typically meet weekly for 50-minute sessions. This helps provide the consistency, focus, and momentum needed for desired change and growth. The duration of treatment can range from short-term to longer-term, depending on the complexity of the issues being addressed. Some find relief in just a few sessions, while others seeking deeper transformation may continue longer. Remember, your active participation plays a crucial role. Just as you'd practice skills between music lessons to improve, practicing the techniques we explore during our sessions can lead to optimal results. Your commitment to your own growth and well-being is key.
  • How much do sessions cost?
Sessions are $140 per 50-minute session. Visit the Service Rates & Fees page for additional information about rates and billing.
  • Do you offer online therapy (teletherapy)?
Yes. My practice provides both office-based and online options. I use a HIPAA-compliant platform for online counseling sessions. The connection is encrypted from end-to-end and provides you with an individual link to your session. For additional information visit my Teletherapy Page.
  • What can I do if I'm not ready to start therapy?
If you're not yet ready for therapy, that's perfectly okay. Deciding to seek support is a personal journey, and it's important to honor your own timing. You might find it helpful to explore self-help resources or learn more about therapy options at your own pace. Consider confiding in a trusted friend or family member for additional perspective. Feel free to visit the Resources page on my website for additional information, reading recommendations, and useful links. Please keep in mind that these materials are for informational purposes only and are not to be considered or used as a substitute for professional, medical, or mental health advice, diagnosis, or treatment. When the time is right for you, my practice will be here to support you whenever you're ready to take that step.
